Seems like only yesterday conservative nabobs of negativity predicted America’s ballooning budget deficit would generate soaring inflation and crippling costs of additional federal borrowing.
Remember Standard & Poor’s downgrade of the United States? Recall the intense worry about…

I Support a People's Libya
Why I support President Obama’s decision to use limited military action in Libya:
1.) The people of Libya overwhelmingly want our assistance, at least in the limited capacity that we are providing it now. If this turns into a permanent occupation, things would likely change.
2.) We are fighting an actual army instead of a hodgepodge group of individuals who are oftentimes unidentifiable.
3.)...

A joke going around...
A unionized public employee, a teabagger, and a CEO are sitting at a table. In the middle of the table there is a plate with a dozen cookies on it. The CEO reaches across and takes 11 cookies, looks at the teabagger and says, “Look out for that union guy — he wants a piece of your cookie.”

On the Mindless Menace of Violence
City Club of Cleveland, Cleveland, Ohio

This is a time of shame and sorrow. It is not a day for politics. I have saved this one opportunity, my only event of today, to speak briefly to you about the mindless menace of violence in America which again stains...

I stand with Senator Bernie Sanders
Sorry Bill and Barack, today I stand with Bernie Sanders against the Obama/Republican tax proposal. I stand with Senator Sanders because I know that MY GENERATION will have to pay the nearly $1 trillion it will cost to extend these tax cuts for people who do not need them. The working-class is hurting and American wealth disparity between the richest and poorest is greater than ever. We need REAL...

My thoughts on the latest WikiLeaks dump...
The leaks showed clear evidence that, in actuality, our military occupation of the middle east contradicts our government’s purported rationale for it. And also, that our national public dialogue (including but not limited to mainstream media dialogue) of the issue is off point.
The leaks exposed the military industrial complex for what it is, a $1.1 trillion+ taxpayer-funded venture for...

No War Politicians and Profiteers 2012: A Pledge...
In 2012, I pledge to vote EXCLUSIVELY for candidates that support complete withdrawal of our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan by the end of 2013. More of our brothers and sisters are dying every day, and I will not accept it as some sort of inevitability. They are being treated as sacrificial lambs for the benefit of war-profiteers who have no interest in ever creating peace and stability in...

Johnny Cash: Radical Poet
Johnny Cash wrote nothing short of radical poetry. His lyrics frame political and economic issues in human terms that articulate an ethos of compassion that, in my humble view, has yet to be matched. Here I’m including the lyrics of two of my favorite Johnny Cash songs.
The first song is called “Don’t Go Near the Water,” and I think its lyrics are more important today...

Conflicts of Interest and the Will of the People
The judge that ruled against the moratorium on deep sea oil drilling turns out to have been heavily invested in oil. We are going to find out about the will of America in the coming months. Ultimately we are going to decide whether or not we like living here.

The BP escrow account is Constitutional, you...
Joe Barton and Michelle Bachmann are out stomping out tyranny wherever it may be found! This time they have been so brave as to stand up to Obama and the Federal Government on behalf of Tony Hayward and BP and say “enough is enough already! Obama’s shakedown has violated BP’s due process rights!” If that sounds absurd to you, well, you must have a functioning, healthy brain...

Joe Barton’s apology to Tony Hayward of BP, and his subsequent framing of Hayward’s agreement with Obama (to pay at least $20 billion in damages) as a violation of due process, may be the straw that broke the camel’s back. I am the camel.

Fox News' Faux Outrage
Watching Fox News’ faux outrage over the BP oil spill is, perhaps, the most annoying thing I’ve ever seen. Here’s Sean Hannity on offshore drilling on April 1st of this year: “We’ve got the oil reserves in Alaska. We’ve got them off the coast of Florida. We’ve got them off the coast in California. We’ve got them in the Gulf. We know where the oil...

After Fix Fail, a Dispiriting Summer of Oil, Anger →
Failed plan after failed plan, BP now hopes to have the spill contained (as in plugged but not cleaned up) by… August! If our Congress was worth a damn, they’d come in on the holiday and vote to end oil subsidies this afternoon. We are nowhere close to even containing the spill, let alone cleaning it up. Ending our fossil fuel dependence isn’t going to happen with a Congress...

Imagine if the Tea Party was Black →
“Protest is only seen as fundamentally American when those who have long had the luxury of seeing themselves as prototypically American engage in it. When the dangerous and dark “other” does so, however, it isn’t viewed as normal or natural, let alone patriotic. Which is why Rush Limbaugh could say, this past week, that the Tea Parties are the first time since the Civil War that ordinary,...
